It is Cat 6, requires more points, but I am sure they will treat Globalists much better than the Andaz Vienna. I think if we added up the extra € per day plus the taxi fares that we spent each day, it will make sense next time to stay in PH Vienna instead. PH Vienna is in the center of the old town. Andaz Vienna is a stone throw from Vienna Hauptbahnhof vs. Except for the free breakfast, we did not feel anything special as a globalist. I think this is prob one of the reasons that Andaz Vienna is a cat 3 hotel. The room they offered after applying an SUA was the saddest that we have gotten. ) We are curious as to what kind of room we would have been ”upgraded” to as a globalist, if we did not use an SUA. (Later on we found out from other globalists that they have negotiated it down to €50 a day. We took the first offered room and found the new room to be very similar to the Andaz suite in Andaz Munich. The hotel had more rooms available for upgrades, becasue when we went down to the FD and inquired politely if there were any other upgrades that we could get, they offered another suite with an additional €80 per day and an ”even better” suite for an additional €120 a day. It was still a nice room, but half the size of the Andaz suites we were used to in Andaz Munich. Well, when we opened the door and saw our room, we were disappointed to see how small and basic the ”suite” was. To be on the safe side, we used points and reserved 3 nights and asked our concierge to apply a SUA to the reservation. So this past weekend, becasue of our great experience with Andaz Munich, when we decided to visit Vienna, we chose Andaz Vienna instead of PH Vienna. These upgrades have always been given without any SUA. The Andas suite is very large and with an extra guest toilet. Everytime, we were upgraded to an Andaz suite, which had a simple ”kitchen” with a microwave. We have stayed there many times and some were for a week or two weeks at a time. We have always had great stays with Andaz Munich Schwabinger Tor. But, again, f you are going to checkin at a hotel because of a restaurant, then you should check in elsewhere, and go to the Do&Co restaurant only. Despite all that, the restaurant had great food and service and an excellent view. The restaurant on the 7th floor is a different story, although we had to fight with the 'concierge' to get the table since she was dismissive to the very hotel guests just checking in earlier. All in all, very tiny and cramped area where you don't feel like spending more time than necessary. The room (city view room, overseeing Stephasnplatz with a glimpse of Stephansdom, is definitely not in a 5-star range - furniture is warned out, TV has a few channels, expansive bar to serve medium size party for a room hosting 2-3 people only (?) and very confusing design of a shower and toilet area. There were menus from the restaurant and almost no information about the hotel, whatsoever. You learn later why because you will not have the necessary info when you check in into your room. Despite minimal space, check in is fast and efficient. If you are waiting to be served, you will have nowhere to seat and will be greeted by the restaurant concierge (or whatever the role is) who will make sure you feel inadequate to book a table. The 'lobby' is on the 6th floor, meaning, there is a few sq meter space called a lobby with a tiny desk and one person operating it. If it was located anywhere else in the city, it would be a 4-star, at best. Great location, across the Stephansdom, but the hotel needs much more to be called a 5-star hotel.
